Great products start with great peopleJoin our team in Zagreb as a QA Engineer and help ship software that people rely on every day. You'll test a large operations platform used by thousands of people in the construction industry, from office managers to crews in the field, plus our own product Lumin, an AI-powered test management tool for BDD teams. The work ranges from classic web and API testing to the tricky new stuff: AI features that don't give the same answer twice. We hire for attitude and ambition first. Whether you're a student starting out in QA or a senior who can own quality strategy end to end, there's a place for you, and expectations scale with experience. Work mostly from our Zagreb office, use AI tools daily to test smarter, and grow with a small team that cares about every pixel.
About Us
Pixion is a Zagreb-based engineering company building production SaaS platforms, secure document and workflow systems, and applied AI for enterprises, scale-ups and startups across the EU and US. Quality isn't a phase at the end for us: every feature goes through code review and QA before it ships.
We're also building Lumin, our own test management tool that pairs plain-English Gherkin scenarios with structured test runs and reporting (lumintest.com). That means our QA engineers don't just use testing tools. They help build one.
Role Overview
As our QA Engineer, you'll split your time between two worlds:
- A large operations platform for the construction industry, built and evolved by our team over many years. It covers bidding, job scheduling, resource planning, time tracking and payroll reporting in real time, and it's used by everyone from management to field workers. Complex business rules, lots of data, and real people depending on it every day.
- Lumin, where you'll be our first power user. You'll use it every day, write real BDD scenarios in it, and directly shape what we build next.
You'll work alongside engineers and designers in agile sprints. AI tools (assistants, agents, AI-assisted test generation) will be part of your daily workflow because they make good testers faster.
Key Responsibilities
- Test web apps and APIs end to end: functional, regression, exploratory and cross-browser testing, with a sharp eye on user experience.
- Write clear test scenarios in Gherkin (Given/When/Then) and manage test runs, statuses and reports in Lumin.
- Build and maintain automated UI and API tests and connect them to our CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions).
- Test AI features: design scenarios for unpredictable outputs, catch hallucinations and edge cases, and help build evaluation sets that show whether a change made things better or worse.
- Write bug reports developers are happy to get: reproducible, well-scoped, with evidence.
- Join sprint planning and refinement to catch problems before they're built by asking the awkward "what if" questions early.
- Give product feedback on Lumin from a tester's point of view and help improve our QA processes across projects.
Where You'll Start, Where You'll Grow
We're open to every level, but expectations are very different at each one.
Starting out (student / junior)
You learn fast, notice what others miss, and write clearly. You'll start with manual and exploratory testing, writing scenarios and reporting bugs, with a mentor at your side. Within your first months you'll write your first automated tests. Student contracts are available.
Mid-level
You own testing for features independently, from reading requirements to sign-off. You write and maintain automated UI and API tests. You're comfortable reading code, querying a database and debugging in browser dev tools.
Senior
You own quality for a whole product. You set the test strategy and decide what's worth automating and what isn't. You build and stabilize automation frameworks and CI pipelines, and you design evaluation approaches for AI features. You mentor others, push back on risky releases with data, and influence how both our client work and Lumin evolve. As Lumin's most demanding user, you'll help shape its roadmap.
Who We're Looking For
Skills can be taught. Mindset is harder. Above all, we're looking for someone who:
- Is curious and a little stubborn. You want to know why something broke, not just that it broke.
- Is ambitious. You know where you want to grow, and you'll put in the work to get there.
- Takes ownership. In our flat structure, nobody hands you a checklist. You decide what "done" means for quality.
- Communicates clearly and kindly in English, with colleagues and clients.
- Is excited about AI and already experiments with it in your work or side projects.
On the technical side:
- You understand how web applications work: front end, back end, APIs and databases. You don't need to be a developer, but you need to understand what developers build.
- You know QA fundamentals: test cases, the bug lifecycle, regression and exploratory testing.
- Git and Jira (or similar tools): a plus at junior level, expected at mid/senior.
- Mid/senior: hands-on test automation experience (we use Playwright), API testing tools (Postman or similar), and basic SQL.
- A CS or related degree (or one in progress) is preferred; equivalent experience is welcome.
Bonus Points (What Sets You Apart)
- Writing BDD scenarios in Gherkin, or using tools like Cucumber or SpecFlow/Reqnroll.
- Testing LLM-based features: prompt regression testing, evaluation datasets ("golden sets"), LLM-as-judge, prompt-injection testing.
- Coding in TypeScript or C#.
- Performance, accessibility or security testing.
- Using test management tools (TestRail, Xray, Zephyr...), and having opinions about what they get wrong.
- ISTQB or a similar certification.
- Personal projects, blog posts or open-source contributions in QA.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary (2,000 – 4,000+ EUR gross, based on experience); student contracts available.
- Rent compensation, flexible working hours, a work-from-home day each week, and an open vacation policy (10 paid days per year on student contracts).
- Bonuses (summer/Christmas, performance, baby), kindergarten compensation, education budget, hardware budget, team fun budget, parking, Multisport card, voluntary pension fund payments, and additional medical insurance with an annual full physical exam.
- An onboarding and mentorship program, weekly knowledge-sharing presentations, and 2 hours every Friday to learn something new (Hokus Pokus).
- A simple hiring process: one round, rarely any homework, and a decision within seven days.
